HARMONY DAY - our first Global Education Project
Early in the year, as part of our History study on cultures and celebrations, we celebrated Harmony Day on March 21, 2014 with the help of many parents in LA 11 and 12. The pictures below show the success of the 30 minute extended recess break where the whole school sampled foods from a vast variety of cultures at Landsdale PS.
LA 11 and 12 students enjoyed working in groups to prepare and serve food and we are grateful to the many parents who donated ingredients, cooked food at home and also helped students cook, serve and handle money on the actual day. Previous to this Harmony Day Food Fest in March, as part of History, individual students researched special cultural dishes from cultures - mainly those that represented their family background. Students also had to learn to work as a team: plan, coordinate, collaborate to share tasks and meet deadlines. Many learned to cook too!! The team of LA 11 students who tried to count the money had a 'just in time, real world' experience as they worked their way through counting nearly $900 - which Mr Blanch kindly took over and presented to our Sister School in Bali.
